Why I’m Running for Council in Ward 2: A Message from Tracey Giroux

When I decided to run for Council in Ward 2, Strathcona County, it wasn’t a choice I made lightly. This decision grew out of years spent alongside my neighbours; working on boards, supporting families through hard times, and, above all, listening to what truly matters.

I firmly believe public service is a responsibility and a privilege. And from conversations across kitchen tables, at community events, in coffee shops, and even casual parking lot chats, one thing is clear: people want leadership that shows up, not sometimes, but consistently.

I’m running because:

Affordability Is a Real Challenge

For too many in Ward 2, affordability is a daily struggle. From housing costs to property taxes and everyday essentials, families are feeling the pinch, and for some, it’s reaching a breaking point. While local government can’t solve every problem alone, we have a part to play. That means advocating for policies that are fair, implementing smart tax relief where possible, and investing in ways that truly reflect what residents need. Good leadership listens, then takes action.

Safety Is the Foundation of Our Community

I’ve worked on the front lines of public safety, crisis response, and supporting our community’s well-being. Safety is more than emergency response—it’s about prevention, mental health support, and fostering strong neighbourhood connections. We need to improve traffic safety, provide our first responders with what they need, and offer proactive support to vulnerable residents before crises arise. Building a safe community demands both compassion and courage.

Community Is Our Foundation

To me, community isn’t just a word; it’s the framework for how we should govern. The best decisions are made with input from everyone affected, especially voices often left unheard. I am committed to reaching beyond the usual circles to ensure every part of Ward 2 feels seen, heard, and valued. That’s how we build trust and meaningful progress.

This Campaign Is About People, Not Ideology

I’m running to support neighbours looking out for one another, parents wanting their children to stay close, seniors hoping to age with dignity, and every resident who calls this place home. Decisions made with genuine care for people can make our community stronger.

Whether you’ve lived here all your life or just moved to Ward 2, your voice matters. I’m not running to speak for you, I’m running to work with you. To listen with humility, lead with integrity, and keep community at the heart of every decision.

Let’s build a better Ward 2 together. Progress doesn’t happen in isolation; it happens when we move forward, side by side.
